South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is set to receive a contract extension and raise Thursday from the school's Board of Trustees that will take his salary to $4 million per year, according to gogamecocks.com.

Spurrier, who earned $3.3 million in 2013, will be among the nation's 10 highest-compensated college coaches. The Gamecocks' investment in Spurrier, 68, follows a stretch of unprecedented football success at the school. The Gamecocks have won 11 games in each of the last three seasons, breaking the school record for wins in 2011 and tying it the subsequent two years.

The Gamecocks have yet to win an SEC championship under Spurrier, although Spurrier did lead the program to its first SEC East title in 2010.

Just eight college coaches earned in excess of $4 million in 2013, although that number is expected to grow this year. Raises for South Carolina's assistant coaches are expected to be approved by the board as well.
