Ricky Proehl played 17 seasons as a wide receiver in the NFL, won two Super Bowl rings (with Indianapolis and St. Louis) and now is the wide receivers coach for the Carolina Panthers.

He's also the father of a future college football player.

His son, Austin, a senior wide receiver at Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Christian, committed Monday to play for North Carolina. His dad played at Wake Forest, a UNC rival.

That got us to thinking about other former NFLers and their kids, so here's a quick look at some current high school seniors who are being heavily recruited and whose dads played in the NFL:

RB Christian McCaffrey of Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Valor Christian is the son of Ed McCaffrey. Christian, who has committed to Stanford (dad's alma mater), is considered one of the top 10 all-purpose backs in this recruiting class.

OT Orlando Brown of Duluth (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge is the son of the former NFL offensive tackle of the same name. The younger Brown, who is 6-feet-7 and 340 pounds, has committed to Tennessee.

S Todd Kelly Jr. of The Webb School in Knoxville is the son of the former NFL defensive end Todd Kelly. The younger Kelly has committed to Tennessee, his dad's alma mater.

S Dillon Bates of Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High is the son of Bill Bates. As with Kelly, Bates has committed to Tennessee, which is his dad's alma mater.

QB Randall Cunningham III of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman is the son of the former NFL quarterback.

CB Marlon Humphrey of Hoover (Ala.) High is the son of Bobby Humphrey. Marlon is considered one of the nation's top five cornerbacks in this recruiting cycle.

Penn State commitment CB Troy Vincent Jr., from The Gilman School in Baltimore, is the son of the former NFL cornerback.

And here are some true freshmen whose dads played in the NFL:

Florida TB Kelvin Taylor, from Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central, is the son of Fred Taylor. He was considered one of the top 10 running backs nationally in the 2013 recruiting class.

Miami RB Ray Lewis III, from Lake Mary (Fla.) Lake Mary Prep, is the son of Ray Lewis.

Northern Illinois true freshman WR Chad Beebe, from Aurora (Ill.) Aurora Christian, is the son of Don Beebe, who coached his son in high school.

Miami (Ohio) true freshman QB Tommy Tupa, from Brecksville (Ohio) Broadview Heights, is the son of Tom Tupa.

Michigan State true freshman TE Dylan Chmura, from Waukesha (Wis.) West, is the son of Mark Chmura.

Rutgers true freshman DT Josh Klecko, from Red Bank (N.J.) Red Bank Catholic, is the son of Joe Klecko.

Oregon true freshman OL Jake Pisarcik, from Medford (N.J.) Shawnee, is the son of Joe Pisarcik.

SMU WR Deion Sanders Jr., who attended The Atlanta Sports Academy last year, is the son of the former NFL cornerback.

And Notre Dame has two freshmen wide receivers whose dads played other sports: Torii Hunter II, whose dad is an outfielder with the Detroit Tigers, and Corey Robinson, whose father, David, was one of the top 50 players in NBA history. Hunter attended Prosper (Texas) High, while Robinson went to San Antonio Christian.
