Report: Giants DE Umenyiora likely to test bum ankle Thursday

The New York Giants have proven over the past month that they can survive without defensive end Osi Umenyiora, and now there's a chance they'll have to play Sunday's de facto playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys with their two-time Pro Bowl selection on the sideline.

On NFL Network
"NFL Replay" will re-air the Giants' 29-14 win over the Jets on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 8 p.m. ET.

A source familiar with the situation told The Record, via The Dallas Morning News, that Umenyiora's injured ankle has "not really" improved and his status for Sunday's game is in doubt. Umenyiora has missed the past four games with the injury.

The winner of the Giants-Cowboys tilt will win the NFC East title and earn the No. 4 seed in the playoffs.

The source told The Record that Umenyiora probably will test out his ankle during Thursday's practice. Umenyiora's ability to push off his injured ankle will be a key factor in determining his status, according to the source.

"No push, no play," the source said.

Umenyiora, 30, has seven sacks in eight games this year.
