Report: Eagles have yet to make contract offer to WR Jackson

The Philadelphia Eagles and DeSean Jackson are far apart in their negotiations on a contract extension, and the team has yet to make an offer to the disgruntled wide receiver, the Philadelphia Sports Daily reported, citing a league source.

Jackson and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, believe the two-time Pro Bowler deserves to be among the NFL's highest-paid receivers. That market has recently been adjusted, given the five-year, $45.5 million contract signed by Santonio Holmes in late July and the eight-year, $120 million deal the Cardinals gave to Larry Fitzgerald that included roughly $47 million guaranteed.

According to the report, Rosenhaus is eyeing a five-year deal that fits somewhere between the parameters of the two contracts, though much closer to the deal Holmes signed, although no sources are cited.

After eluding to the idea that the Eagles might have to eventually restructure the contract of quarterback Michael Vick in order to create enough salary-cap space for Jackson, team president Joe Banner said Thursday the organization could currently make a deal fit.

"I'm not going to get into the exact specifics of (that report)," Banner told 97.5 FM The Fanatic.

"Mathematically we are in a position where we could sign someone to an extension. At the same time, obviously, there are numbers that get so large that you can't do that. But that is not what would keep us from doing something with somebody at this point. ... Within realistic parameters, we could do something if that is what we wanted to do."

Jackson held out for the first couple of weeks of training camp this summer but ultimately reported. He's scheduled to receive approximately $600,000 in base salary this season, the final year of the four-year rookie deal signed after the Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
