Redskins release backup QB, former college standout Brennan

The Redskins have released backup quarterback Colt Brennan, the team announced Monday.

Brennan, the team's sixth-round draft pick (186th overall) in the 2008 NFL Draft, was designated the third-string quarterback for all of Washington's regular season games in 2008. In 2009, Brennan had surgery for a torn labrum in his left hip and was placed on injured reserve by the team before the season started. The surgery was similar to the one he had on his right hip prior to the 2008 season.

Brennan broke 31 NCAA records at the starting quarterback for the University of Hawaii. He was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in both his junior and senior season sand was the recipient of the Sammy Baugh Award, given to the nation's top passer, in 2006.

Earlier Monday, the Redskins acquired quarterback John Beck from the Ravens for cornerback Doug Dutch, who spent time on the Redskins' practice squad in 2009.
