New England Patriots director of pro personnel Jason Licht was in Chicago on Thursday for a second interview with the Bears regarding their general manager vacancy, according to the team's official website.
The Bears are down to Licht and Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting Phil Emery in their search for their next GM. Emery had his first interview after Licht had his, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported Monday, citing league sources.
Licht is a 16-year veteran of the NFL, having worked with the Patriots and Arizona Cardinals.
The Bearsfired longtime GM Jerry Angelo shortly after finishing an 8-8 season.
Among the challenges facing the new GM: how to handle running back Matt Forte, whose rookie contract is set to expire. Forte has said he wants a long-term deal in Chicago but would be leery of the team using the franchise tag on him.
