It appears more and more likely the Green Bay Packers will place the franchise tag on tight end Jermichael Finley, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Saturday that there have not been any recent talks between the tight end's agent and the Packers.
Finley is in the final year of his contract, which pays him $1.2 million this season. He told the newspaper that no progress have been made on a new deal.
The Journal Sentinel also reported that if the two sides can't agree on a long-term deal, the Packers likely are to place a franchise tag on Finley in March.
"If they do, it's something I've got to work through and talk it out," Finley said.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported in November that as a part of the new collective bargaining agreement franchise tag numbers will be down across the board this offseason. La Canfora reported that the tight end figure is expected to decrease from $7.3 million in 2011 to $5.4 million in 2012.
