Notre Dame signee out-benches Jadeveon Clowney

Notre Dame incoming freshman Quenton Nelson is known around Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic High for his immense physical strength, but after the release of a video of Nelson bench pressing more weight than some notable NFL Scouting Combine participants -- including No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney -- his notoriety is bound to take off.

Nelson managed 26 unassisted reps of 225 pounds, five more than Clowney posted at the combine. The video also flashes the names of some other top NFL rookies who couldn't match Nelson, including Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews. Nelson is an offensive tackle prospect himself.

Of course, all this says absolutely nothing about what kind of player Nelson will be for the Fighting Irish. The weightroom kings of college football programs everywhere aren't necessarily NFL draft prospects, or for that matter, even starters for their own team. But it does speak to the level of commitment high school recruits are putting into their crafts.

The three-sport athlete in high school has most definitely, for better or worse, gone the way of the dinosaur in favor of year-round, specialized training for a single sport.
