NBA coach Doc Rivers lauds Johnny Manziel

Not even the NBA can get enough of Johnny Football.

Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers found time to watch the Chick-fil-A Bowl, and had this to say about Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel:

"I've never watched a college player, honestly, more in my life, in one year. I don't care what he does next year, I just want to see him play. Go back to college and play, go to the pros -- I just want to see him play."

Asked if Manziel should replace Jay Cutler as the quarterback of his Chicago Bears, Rivers defended the former Vanderbilt quarterback, however.

"I like Cutler," he said. "... You stick with the guys."

Manziel, of course, has little chance of winding up in Chicago now that Cutler has signed a seven-year contract with the Bears, which was announced Thursday morning.

Scouts have projected Manziel as a first-round pick, assuming he declares for the draft, almost across the board. Plays like this are a big reason why.

Where he may fall in the first round, however, is the subject of a more intense debate. There is no shortage of teams drafting early in the first round who are in need of a quarterback. And with a talent like Manziel available, you never know who may be clamoring to trade up.
