Meyer: Barrett to forfeit scholarship for term after OVI citation

A one-game suspension isn't the only discipline Ohio State is doling out to Buckeyes QB J.T. Barrett after his Saturday citation for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI).

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Monday at a press conference that Barrett will also forfeit his scholarship for a term. A school spokesman said Meyer was referring to Barrett's aid for the summer term.

The coach also said that the transgression makes him question Barrett's decision making.

Meyer said he told Barrett, "Now there are some questions of who you are."

Barrett, 20, was suspended for Ohio State's Nov. 7 game vs. Minnesota on Saturday after receiving the citation. He was pulled over close to campus at a sobriety checkpoint and registered a 0.099 on a test to measure his blood-alcohol content, per The Columbus Dispatch. In Ohio, drivers younger than 21 are considered impaired at 0.02 (it's 0.08 for those older than 21), according the report. He will be arraigned Friday on misdemeanor charges of OVI and backing without safety, The Dispatch reported.

Barrett made his first start of the season in OSU's last game, a win over Rutgers. Cardale Jones will return to the starting role vs. Minnesota -- Jones started the first seven games of the season. Meyer said Monday that Braxton Miller, who switched positions from quarterback to H-back before the season, will be the No. 2 QB vs. the Golden Gophers.

Meyer said he has not determined who will start at quarterback on Nov. 14 vs. Illinois.
