Mayock: Saints' Garrett Grayson reminds me of Drew Brees

If you had Colorado State's Garrett Grayson in the "who will be the third quarterback selected in the 2015 NFL Draft?" pool, congratulations on your win.

The New Orleans Saints took Grayson with the 11th pick in the third round (75th overall) Friday night. Grayson ran a pro-style attack at Colorado State, and now will get to sit and learn what it takes to be an NFL quarterback from Saints veteran Drew Brees.

That makes a lot of sense, according to NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock, who said Grayson reminds him a little of the Saints star.

"I'm not trying to say he's Drew Brees, but his game is similar to a Drew Brees," Mayock said during NFL Network's draft coverage. "He throws with anticipation, which is rare for a college quarterback today. ... Will he overwhelm you with his physical traits? No. A little over 6 feet 2, pretty good arm, pretty good athlete. But I think the whole is better than the composite parts."

Grayson was in the mix with UCLA's Brett Hundley, Baylor's Bryce Petty, and Oregon State's Sean Mannion to be the third quarterback taken. Last season, Grayson threw for 4,006 yards, fourth-most nationally, and 32 TDs.

"I'm only surprised (Grayson was third) in terms of physical characteristics because Petty, Hundley, Mannion looked the part," NFL Media analyst Charles Davis said.

Petty, Hundley, and Mannion are all at least 6-foot-3 and at least 226 pounds. Grayson is 6-2 1/2 and 212 pounds.

This is the earliest the Saints have taken a quarterback since selecting Archie Manning No. 2 overall in 1971.
