Locker-room fight at Cal is under police investigation

A locker-room fight sent California freshman tailback Fabiano Hale to the hospital on Friday, university police said.

Hale, 18, a walk-on, was in a fight with a teammate, whom police would not identify; police also said they do not know what sparked the incident. But university police Lt. Marc DeCoulode told the San Francisco Chronicle, "We know who the suspect is."

The newspaper reported that police did not say if charges would be filed or whether the other player had been interviewed.

When asked by the Chronicle about the incident Monday, first-year coach Sonny Dykes declined to comment.

California is 1-8 overall and 0-6 in Pac-12 play; the Golden Bears, who play host to USC on Saturday, have lost 11 consecutive league games.

Hale turned down a scholarship offer from Division II Humboldt (Calif.) State to walk-on at Cal. As a senior last fall at Soquel (Calif.) High, he rushed for 2,452 yards and 40 touchdowns.
