Jets officially drop out of Manning sweepstakes

The New York Jets have officially ended their pursuit of free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning, according to Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer on Friday.

The Jets had been mentioned as one of several teams to have contacted Manning's agent, Tom Condon. Manning was in Denver on Friday, visiting with the Broncos and is expected to meet with the Cardinals and Dolphins in the coming days.

An unamed Jets player even told the New York Daily News earlier this week: "I want him in New York. He needs to be a Jet."

But another Jets source was much less enthused earlier this week, saying, "Based on what we feel that we can offer, I have a feeling that we're a longshot."
