Baylor has lost another starting offensive lineman for the season.
Starting right tackle Troy Baker (6-foot-7, 305 pounds), a fifth-year senior, suffered a torn ACL during the Bears' loss at West Virginia on Saturday. Baker was a fulltime starter as a sophomore in 2012, battled a knee injury last season and started just twice, then regained his starting job this season.
His injury comes on the heels of a wrist injury suffered by junior right guard Desmine Hillard during last week's win over TCU; the injury required surgery and Hillard (6-5, 340) -- who was a two-year starter -- will miss the rest of the season.
Sophomore Jason Osei (6-4, 300) is expected to replace Baker and immediately becomes one of the most interesting starters in college football. Osei is 27, a computer sciences major who has made the Dean's List and a native of England. He played club football in Finland and England before signing with Baylor in 2012; he redshirted that season, then played in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman last season, though the majority of his time was on special teams. Osei, who has a background in rugby and martial arts, had a team-high 32 reps in the bench press at 225 pounds during the spring.
Jarell Broxton (6-5, 330), a junior college transfer, started in Hillard's vacated right guard spot against WVU and is expected to remain there.
Bears starting defensive end Jamal Palmer also already has been lost for the season.
In other injury news:
» Clemson TB Adam Choice, the team's leading rusher, will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Clemson has struggled with its consistency in the running game, and Choice -- a true freshman -- led the team with 50 carries for 233 yards. Choice had expected to be redshirted but was pressed into duty when projected starter Zac Brooks was injured during camp. Ironically, Choice was injured on Clemson's first wildcat snap of the season. The bulk of the carries now are expected to go to redshirt freshman Wayne Gallman and junior C.J. Davidson; that duo has combined for 396 yards. Redshirt freshman Tyshon Dye, who has yet to play in a college game because of a variety of injuries, including a torn Achilles tendon suffered in February, has begun to practice and could see time Saturday against Syracuse.
» Oregon State starting WR Richard Mullaney suffered an elbow injury in last Thursday's loss to Utah, and coach Mike Riley said he could miss the rest of the season. The Beavers' passing attack has been a big disappointment this season, and Mullaney's injury certainly doesn't help matters.
» South Carolina starting DT J.T. Surratt is doubtful for Saturday's game with Auburn; his absence could further hamper a mediocre Gamecocks defense.
» Two UCLA starters, tailback Paul Perkins (wrist) and wide receiver Thomas Duarte (hamstring), were injured in Saturday's win over California, and their availability for next Saturday's game at Colorado is unknown. Perkins is UCLA's leading rusher, with 816 yards. Duarte, who might be the team's best deep threat, is tied for third on the team with 18 receptions; he is averaging 18.3 yards per catch.
» Miami coach Al Golden said Taylor Gadbois, a sophomore who had been the Hurricanes' starting right tackle, is going to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Gadbois was injured during the Sept. 27 win over Duke, but Miami had held out hope that he could return. Backup K.C. McDermott, a true freshman, also was injured against Duke, and Golden said he expects him to return at some point this season. Senior Jon Feliciano has started at right tackle in the past two games.
» Utah State already has lost starting QB Chuckie Keeton for the season with a torn ACL -- the second season in a row that has happened. Now the Aggies could be without his backup, Darell Garretson. Garretson, who has played at a high level since replacing Keeton, suffered a wrist injury in Saturday's loss to Colorado State. Little-used senior Craig Harrison would start if Garretson can't go this week against UNLV.
» Purdue has lost starting LB Sean Robinson for the season with a torn ACL. He was injured Oct. 4, and the school announced Monday that he needed surgery and would miss the rest of the season. Robinson, a fifth-year senior and team captain whose college career now is over, was the team's third-leading tackler (42) when he was injured. True freshman Ja'Whaun Bentley and redshirt freshman Garrett Hudson -- the son of defensive coordinator Ron Hudson -- now are sharing time in the middle.
» Navy starting QB Keenan Reynolds, who missed the Midshipmen's most recent game -- an Oct. 11 win over VMI -- with a shoulder injury, is expected to play this week against San Jose State.
» Wisconsin starting DT Warren Herring, who suffered a knee injury in the opener and hasn't played since, might return this week when the Badgers play host to Maryland. His return would be a boost to a depth-shy defensive line.
