Florida State starting tailback Karlos Williams is the subject of a Tallahassee Police Department investigation into an alleged domestic battery incident.

"The alleged crime is an active on-going investigation, and Florida law does not allow TPD to discuss the details of any case while it is on-going," Tallahassee Police said in a statement to the Tallahassee Democrat.

The statement said the department received the case Saturday night.

An ESPN.com report says Williams is being investigated for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, who is pregnant with the couple's second child.

Last Friday, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher was asked about a report that Williams had been suspended for a violation of team rules.

"There's another false report, and that's amazing how things happen," Fisher told reporters. "Whoever has sources, whoever has rumors, needs to check who they are talking to because that is about as far from truth as there is."

A release from FSU on Monday afternoon said, "Until we receive more information regarding the alleged incident, his status with the team will be under review."

Williams (6-foot-1, 225 pounds), a senior, is in his first season as the starter, but he has been somewhat of a disappointment. He rushed for 730 yards and 11 TDs on 91 carries last season as a reserve; he has 378 yards and seven TDs on 82 carries this season. He ran for 126 yards and three TDs against North Carolina State, but he hasn't run for more than 66 yards in any other game for FSU (7-0).

The Seminoles play at Louisville on Thursday night, and the Cardinals lead the nation in total defense and rushing defense.
