Fox says he'll prioritize Tebow as Broncos close out preseason

Contrary to popular belief, Tim Tebow hasn't run out of time to prove himself in Denver just yet.

Broncos coach John Fox hinted Wednesday that Tebow will have more reps than Brady Quinn in one and perhaps both of the team's remaining preseason games, according to a Thursday report in The Denver Post.

Esiason lays the Boom

Former Pro Bowl QB Boomer Esiason believes Tim Tebow would be a fine man to marry his daughter but not someone to lead an NFL team like the Broncos.

Tebow has been the subject of intense scrutiny during training camp and the preseason as he dropped from the presumed starter to reported low man on the QB depth chart. Kyle Orton has played well and already was announced as the Week 1 starter by Fox.

Orton is expected to play the first half and at least one series into the second half in Saturday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, with Tebow and Quinn handling the remaining reps. Orton likely won't play in the fourth preseason game Thursday at Arizona, paving the way for a potential start for Tebow.

Fox said he felt Tebow and Quinn handled the change well after a bumpy start.

Based on Tebow's workload this week, it appears he'll replace Orton in the third quarter on Saturday night.

Tebow has received the fewest reps of the three quarterbacks this preseason, something Fox said he'll address in the final two games.

"Kyle has had 19 passes, Brady's had 30 and Tim's had nine," Fox said. "So in fairness to Tim, we need to get that total up whether that's this week or next week."

Fox has brushed off the rounds of criticism levied at Tebow in recent days. In particular, he mocked the anonymous quote in a Yahoo! Sports report that said a "highly knowledgeable member of the organization" believed Tebow would be the fourth-string QB in an honest competition.

"It could have been the chef," Fox said of the unnamed source. "He sees the players every day."
