MOBILE, Ala. -- NFL general managers Thomas Dimitroff of the Atlanta Falcons and Dave Caldwell of the Jacksonville Jaguars got a good chance to catch up this week at the Reese's Senior Bowl, with their teams' coaching staffs working with the North and South squads, respectively.
But atlantafalcons.com brought fans a little closer to their exchange with this ride-along video of the two GMs chatting football in a car together, presumably Dimitroff's, who is behind the wheel. Naturally, the video wasn't exactly loaded with news, although Caldwell did make mention that the club requested South tight end Crockett Gilmore of Colorado State as the fill-in for injured tight end Marcel Jensen. Crockett had already caught the eye of tight ends coach Ron Middleton at the East-West Shrine Game last week.
Both Dimitroff and Caldwell said they were impressed with the offensive lineman on hand, a group that includes Notre Dame's Zack Martin, Clemson's Brandon Thomas and Mississippi State's Gabe Jackson.
"They're really focused, and they're coming off with bend," Dimitroff said. "None of this erect, standing up, straight blocking stuff."
Dimitroff wisely called their owners, Jacksonville's Shahid Khan and Atlanta's Arthur Blank "great and gracious" when it comes to opening the checkbook for the technology necessary for cutting-edge personnel work. Caldwell doesn't come off quite as comfortable as Dimitroff with the ride-along video concept, but does manage to get in a quip about Dimitroff's age when Dimitroff notes that he's a 25-year Senior Bowl veteran.
