Ex-UCLA coach Dorrell to replace Knapp as Houston's QB coach

The Texans have hired Karl Dorrell as their new quarterbacks coach to replace Greg Knapp, the Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Dorrell, 48, was the receivers and quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins this past season. He knows Texans coach Gary Kubiak from when they were both on the Denver Broncos' staff under Mike Shanahan -- Kubiak as offensive coordinator and Dorrell as receivers coach.

Dorrell left the NFL in 2003 to become head coach of the UCLA Bruins. He was 35-27 in five seasons before the Bruins fired him.

The Raiders hired Knapp to be their new offensive coordinator last week.
