Dominique Easley is due to visit the Dallas Cowboys this week, which isn't too surprising given that the club took time to look at the former Florida defensive lineman at his pro-day workout, NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt reported. Plenty of NFL clubs were represented there, so Easley's travel schedule might just now be speeding up.
Perhaps more telling is the Cowboys have hosted more than two dozen defensive linemen in recent weeks, according to dallasnews.com. With just 30 official visits allowed, that would seem to indicate a very high priority. However, if "hosting" includes defensive linemen from local colleges, who can be worked out separately and do not count against the total, the real number of visiting defensive linemen is still unclear.
But it's cause to wonder, at least, whether the club has designs on investing more than one pick at the position. NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Monday that the defensive line is the Cowboys' top priority, and that he could foresee Dallas addressing the need with more than one choice. Easley is projected as a second-day pick despite suffering two ACL tears over his Florida career. He was of central importance to a UF defense that played well early last season, but faltered in part due to his absence after the latest knee injury.
Jeremiah's latest mock draft projects Dallas to pick UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr, who recently revealed that the Cowboyslikely prefer him as a defensive end. Dallas holds the No. 16-overall pick in the first round, while the club's second-day picks come at Nos. 47 and 78.
Along with the Cowboys visit, Brandt reported that Easley will also be visiting the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams.
