IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys activated running back Alonzo Coleman off their practice squad Friday after Marion Barber missed his fourth consecutive practice with a dislocated right pinkie toe.

The move gives the Cowboys more depth at running back if Barber can't play Sunday at Pittsburgh. With Felix Jones already out for the season, the only running back behind Barber was rookie Tashard Choice, who has 147 yards on 30 carries.

Coach Wade Phillips, meeting with reporters before practice Friday, offered no update on Barber's status. He said Thursday the possibility of Barber playing was "a little more doubtful."

"I think everybody felt good that he would be able to go, but he hasn't been able to go yet," Phillips said Thursday.

Coleman went undrafted out of Hampton in 2007. He's been on the practice squad most of the past two seasons.

"He's a guy who knows what to do and knows our offense," Phillips said.

Cornerback Quincy Butler was cut to make room for Coleman.
