Rice starting free safety Corey Frazier, the son of Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier, will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Frazier, a senior, injured his left knee in the final minute of last week's victory at Kansas. He had nine tackles and two pass breakups in two games. Frazier could petition the NCAA for a sixth season of eligibility if he chooses.

Things we learned

From AJ McCarron praising an unsung hero for Alabama's win to Oregon's epic rout, here are the things we learned from the third weekend of college football play. **More ...**

He is one of two Rice players whose dads are NFL head coaches; the other is backup wide receiver Klein Kubiak, whose father, Gary, is the Houston Texans' head man.

Frazier (6-feet-1, 215 pounds) missed all but one game last season with an injury to the same knee.

Junior Julius White (5-10, 195) moves into the starting lineup. Rice plays cross-town rival Houston on Saturday.

One positive for Rice is that senior linebacker Cameron Nwosu (5-10, 240), who hasn't played this season because of a knee injury, is expected back for the Houston game. He was second on the team with 92 tackles last season.

His replacement, Michael Kutzler, leads the Owls with 15 tackles and two sacks. He also has one interception, which he returned for a TD in the win over Kansas.
