Chargers TE Gates sits out of practice again

Experiencing soreness from the torn plantar fascia suffered last season, San Diego tight end Antonio Gates did not practice again Thursday as the Chargers prepared for Sunday's game against Kansas City.

Coach Norv Turner said he was not simply giving Gates extra rest.

"This is early in the season, I would like Antonio to be able to practice every day," Turner told cbssports.com.

Gates, who had no catches in last Sunday's loss to New England, could make some history Sunday. He needs one more touchdown to join Tony Gonzalez as the only tight ends in NFL history with at least 70 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Vincent Jackson also didn't practice Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, though it was not known why. He fully practiced on Wednesday.

Other Chargers not practicing included receiver Malcom Floyd (groin), defensive end Corey Liuget (ankle), safety Bob Sanders (knee) and running back Mike Tolbert (calf).
