Chargers' Robert Meachem: Knee surgery won't slow me down

Robert Meachem has been a full participant thus far during the San Diego Chargers' voluntary offseason workout program, an impressive accomplishment considering he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery following the end of the 2011 season.

Meachem confirmed the operation Tuesday to U-T San Diego, saying he "banged" his knee during the New Orleans Saints' season finale against the Carolina Panthers on Jan. 1. The injury did not prevent the wideout from playing during the Saints' two playoff games, and Meachem emphatically stated his knee will not be an issue during the rest of the offseason.

"I'm going to do everything: OTAs, minicamp," Meachem said. "I'm feeling good. I'm in a new atmosphere. I'm getting all the help I need to make sure I'm good for the next year. Pretty much everything is good right now."

Meachem said he had his knee scoped following the Saints' divisional round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and the procedure was on the same knee that was operated on before he was drafted in 2007.

"It kind of flared up on me over the next few games," Meachem said.

Meachem, who signed a four-year deal with the Chargers this offseason, has only missed two games in his four-year career.
