Chargers part ways with defensive line coach Nunnely

SAN DIEGO -- Defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely became the fifth San Diego Chargers assistant to be dismissed when the team said Tuesday his contract will not be renewed.

Nunnely had been with San Diego for 12 seasons. The Chargers hired Don Johnson to replace Nunnely, and Steve Wilks to replace fired secondary coach Bill Bradley.

Johnson and Wilks are former Chicago Bears assistants who are being reunited with Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. They worked under Rivera in Chicago in 2006 when the Bears made it to the Super Bowl before losing to Indianapolis.

Johnson spent the last two years as the Oakland Raiders' defensive tackles coach. Wilks was fired last week after three seasons with the Bears.
