Bruised shoulder keeps Rams rookie Saffold out of practice

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams rookie offensive tackle Rodger Saffold was held out of practice because of a bruised left shoulder he hurt earlier in the week.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo and Saffold said Thursday the move was precautionary. Renardo Foster took the bulk of practice snaps at Saffold's left tackle spot, but Saffold expects to play on Sunday at San Francisco.

Saffold was the second pick of the second round this year and was so impressive that the other tackle, Jason Smith, was moved to the right side. Smith was the second overall pick of last year's draft.

Outside linebacker Na'il Diggs bumped his right shin when he collided with safety Craig Dahl and was to undergo X-rays.
