Bears starting LG Williams expected to miss significant time

Just when the Chicago Bears' offensive line was finding it's groove, it looks like they have lost a member of their quintet for a significant amount of time.

Bears coach Lovie Smith confirmed following a 37-13 win over the Detroit Lions that starting left guard Chris Williams underwent surgery Sunday night for a wrist injury and "will be out for a while."

Smith didn't provide details of the injury, but ESPN Chicago reported Williams dislocated the wrist, according to a source. The Chicago Tribune reported Williams' injury is similar to what Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher suffered in 2008 and that he's expected to miss the rest of the season.

Williams had settled into the left guard spot this season, starting all nine games. It's expected that Edwin Williams, who replaced Chris Williams against the Lions, would fill his starting spot.
