Baylor's Griffin III expects fast 40 in Indy, will throw at pro day

Robert Griffin III doesn't plan on throwing during workouts at NFL Scouting Combine, but if all goes according to plan he'll still leave scouts and personnel executives with their jaws dropped when he leaves Indianapolis.

The Baylor quarterback appeared on Tuesday's edition of "The Dan Patrick Show" and said he expects to run a sub-4.5 second 40-yard dash during the combine.

Lombardi: Combine captivation

Griffin declined to take the bait when asked if he could rip off a time in the 4.3-second range. He did say he's been clocked at less than 4.4 before, however, and he said "there's a possibility" he could do it again at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Griffin reiterated Tuesday that he likely will not throw at the combine and plans to throw for teams during his March 21 pro day at Baylor, which has been moved up a day to avoid a conflict with Stanford and quarterback Andrew Luck.

"We thought it would be fair to everybody involved -- to all the guys coming out of Baylor -- to have all the scouts there to watch instead of having them split between me and Andrew," Griffin said.

"I have no doubt if they had stayed the same and neither of us moved, they would move it," Griffin added. "But we decided to be active and move ours ahead just to be the bigger men and not make it a big issue."

Griffin and Luck are widely viewed as the top two candidates to be selected first overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Griffin said he has not yet spoken to the Colts, or any other NFL team, and is not sure if they plan to interview him during the combine.

"I try not to expect anything," Griffin said. "They haven't announced who they're picking first yet. So if I get that meeting, I'll cherish that."
