Backup WR Arrington cut so Saints can sign kicker Carney

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints waived wide receiver Adrian Arrington on Wednesday to make roster room for veteran kicker John Carney.

The Saints took Arrington out of Michigan in the seventh round of the 2008 draft. He performed well during the preseason, but he wasn't active for any regular-season games, partly because he hasn't excelled on special teams.

The Saints are now carrying two kickers on their roster after signing the 46-year-old Carney and retaining third-year kicker Garrett Hartley, who missed a 29-yard game-winning field-goal try in overtime during last Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Arrington caught 11 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason, with a long reception of 87 yards.
