Backup running back Dorsey cut by Colts

INDIANAPOLIS -- DeDe Dorsey, who entered Colts camp as the backup to Joseph Addai, was one of more than 20 players cut by Indianapolis on Saturday.

Free agent Kenton Keith should inherit the backup job for now, although the veteran of the Canadian Football League has never had an NFL carry.

Dorsey spent only 2 1/2 seasons as a running back at Lindenwood University in Missouri after starting his career in the secondary. He was claimed off waivers last season from the Cincinnati Bengals and played in 13 games with the Colts, all on special teams.

The Colts may pursue another backup running back on the waiver wire.

Also released were veteran defensive ends Bo Schobel and Ryan LaCasse and receiver John Standeford. Schobel and LaCasse played primarily on special teams last season, while Standeford spent most of the past three seasons on the Colts' practice squad.

Indianapolis also waived: linebackers Brandon Archer, KaMichael Hall and Victor Worsley; quarterback Josh Betts; defensive backs Duane Coleman, Tanard Davis, Antonio Perkins and Scott Ware; running back Clifton Dawson; tight ends Matt Farbotko and Jonny Harline; offensive linemen Joe Lobdell, Matt Ulrich and Sam Wilder; defensive lineman Ramel Meekins; receivers Gijon Robinson, Trent Shelton and Craphonso Thorpe.

Schobel had his contract terminated.

The Colts can re-sign eight players to the practice squad, starting Sunday. The defending champions open their season Thursday night in Indianapolis against the New Orleans Saints.
