Jason Campbell escaped pressure, but bounced a pass to a wide-open Malcolm Kelly on fourth-and-2 with 2:27 to play, which sealed the Redskins' doom. Atlanta then took possession, picked up one first down and ran out the clock.
Game ball
Michael Turner put the offense on his shoulders and carried the Falcons to victory. He finished with 166 rushing yards and his 58-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter put the game away. Washington had dominated the second half to that point, with two long scoring drives, but Turner's dash changed the momentum.
Key Stat
The Falcons sacked Campbell five times in the first half -- a team record for sacks in a half. The physical toll forced him out of the game in each half (though Campbell returned to finish the game).
Noteworthy
A skirmish on the Falcons' sidelines ensued after Redskins safety LaRon Landry hit Atlanta QB Matt Ryan as he was going out of bounds. Former Falcon DeAngelo Hall got into a shouting match with Atlanta coach Mike Smith. Landry and Albert Haynesworth -- who joined the fray late -- were assessed 15 yard penalties. ... Atlanta's Jonathan Babineaux established career highs in both tackles (10) and sacks (2.5). ... Redskins RB Clinton Portis left in the first quarter with a concussion and did not return.
