Steve Smith hauled in a Redskins onside kick attempt with 1:30 to play, ending any hope Washington had of pulling off a comeback. Smith also made the key reception that helped the Giants kill more clock late in the fourth-quarter, making a 26-yard catch on third-and-5 with under nine minutes left.

In his first game since Super Bowl XLII, Giants DE Osi Umenyiora made the play of the game. He beat Chris Samuels around the edge, stripped Redskins QB Jason Campbell of the ball, scooped it up and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown to give New York a 17-0 second-quarter lead.
