Colts safety Bob Sanders intercepted Matt Cassel on fourth-and-15 with 4:40 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Patriots had been in range for a game-tying field goal until a personal foul on TE David Thomas two plays earlier moved them back to the Colts' 46.

Game ball
Anthony Gonzalez scored both of Indianapolis' touchdowns for his first two scores of the season. The second-year WR finished with four catches for 55 yards, including a 24-yard reception in the fourth quarter that set up Adam Vinatieri's go-ahead 52-yard field goal.

Key stat
The Colts made two trips into the red zone and came away with touchdowns both times. New England, on the other hand, settled for field goals on three of their four trips inside the Indianapolis 20.

Noteworthy
With seven catches, Wes Welker joined former Jaguars WR Jimmy Smith as the only players in NFL history to have at least six receptions in their team's first seven games of the season. ... Sanders returned after missing the last five games with a high ankle sprain. He finished with eight tackles and one interception. ... The game marks just the second time in the last twenty meetings with the Colts that the Patriots failed to score at least 20 points. The last time was in a 20-15 loss on Dec. 12, 1999. ... The Colts have not lost three consecutive regular season games since 2002.
