The Bills stuffed Redskins RB Clinton Portis for a 4-yard gain on 3rd-and-8 with 1:06 to play. Buffalo took over after a Washington punt, and Trent Edwards drove the Bills into position for Rian Lindell's 36-yard, game-winning field goal.

Buffalo rookie Edwards completed 22 of 36 passes for 257 yards and keyed the winning drive with a clutch 30-yard pass to Josh Reed. Defensively for the Bills, end Larry Triplett showed tremendous athleticism for a 293-pound man in making an acrobatic, diving interception. He also had a forced fumble and three tackles.

Key stat
The Bills came into the game ranked 31st in total defense and 23rd in rushing defense, yet they held Portis to only 50 yards on 25 carries and kept the Redskins to only 282 total yards.

Noteworthy
The Redskins held a pregame memorial service for slain safety Sean Taylor. They started the game The content for this link cannot be found.  in honor of Taylor and gave up a 22-yard rush to Fred Jackson. Washington coach Joe Gibbs made a costly mistake late in the fourth quarter, calling a second straight timeout to try and freeze Bills K Lindell. The resulting 15-yard penalty made Lindell's job easier, turning a 51-yard attempt into a 36-yarder, which Lindell nailed.
