O.J. Atogwe intercepted Trent Dilfer's pass on the final play of the game. The 49ers went for the onside kick after Joe Nedney's field goal with 1:55 left in the fourth quarter. San Francisco held St. Louis to a three-and-out, but started its final drive on its own 11-yard line after a Rams punt. Dilfer was able to move the 49ers 68 yards down to the Rams 21, but ran out of time and had to force his final throw.

Game ball
The Rams are a much different team with Steven Jackson at running back, and he is a reason why the team has won consecutive games. Jackson rushed for 92 yards and had four receptions for 20 yards to account for more than half of the Rams' total yardage.
Key stat
The 49ers were only 3-of-14 on third down conversions, which allowed St. Louis to hold a nearly 10-minute advantage in time of possession. The Rams were able to exert more ball control and seemed content to just maintain positive field position to hang on for the win.
Noteworthy
After opeing the season with back-to-back wins, the 49ers have lost eight consecutive games, their longest losing streak since 1999. ... The 49ers haven't scored a touchdown since their opening drive against Atlanta two weeks ago.
