Quick Take: Steelers at Panthers

What we learned ...

Stefan Logan deserves a roster spot ... somewhere: The Steelers' first-year running back has quietly hurt opponents on special teams, and he capped off a strong preseason with an 80-yard return for a touchdown on the Panthers' first punt of the game. He also had 27 yards on two carries. At age 28, the former CFL star is still a long shot to make a veteran Steelers roster, but his preseason performance certainly will create a very difficult decision for coach Mike Tomlin come cutdown day. If Logan isn't on the Steelers' roster, look for him to land somewhere else.

Isaac Redman is running hard: Redman is another running back likely battling Logan for a roster spot. The Pittsburgh rookie looked unstoppable on a 10-yard, first-quarter touchdown run in which five Carolina defenders -- including some starters -- simply couldn't take him down. Redman totaled 79 yards on 12 carries, finishing the preseason with 142 yards and three touchdowns.

The Panthers also have some strong rookie runners:Mike Goodson did it all for Carolina in the first two quarters -- running between the tackles, displaying the speed to turn the corner, as well as catching two passes for 13 yards. He finished with 79 yards on 15 carries. When Goodson's day was done, Jamall Lee took over, totaling 37 yards on 11 carries, including the Panthers' only touchdown on a 1-yard run up the middle.
