Packers place Bell on IR, further depleting secondary

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Packers placed Josh Bell on injured reserve Tuesday, compounding their depth problems at cornerback.

The team didn't give a reason for the move, but Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Bell had a foot sprain. Bell, a former Denver Broncos player, signed with the Packers as a free agent after Al Harris sustained a season-ending knee injury last November.

The Packers also signed linebacker Maurice Simpkins, a first-year pro out of Coastal Carolina who played for the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League in 2010.
