Guess what? NFL owners spend their piles of scratch on more than just football players.
Jim Irsay of the Colts, for instance, just dropped $2.2 million for a drum kit that Ringo Starr once used to record a rash of early Beatles hits, per The Associated Press.
Julien's Auctions told The AP that Irsay purchased the 1963 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl three-piece drum set at a sale on Friday in Beverly Hills, California. Starr used the kit during recordings of "Can't Buy Me Love," "She Loves You," "All My Loving" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
Irsay also owns a trio of guitars once strummed by Paul McCartney, the late George Harrison and the late John Lennon, prompting the Colts figurehead to tell the media: "Finally, after 45 years, the Beatles are together again."
More than just a music lover, Irsay previously made waves in the literary community by paying $2.43 million in 2001 for Jack Kerouac's original "On the Road" manuscript, an epic banged out feverishly by the writer on one long and winding -- and now yellowing -- scroll.
That's nearly $5 million for a book and a musical instrument, which looks interesting next to the measly $2 million that Matt Hasselbeck will make for his autumn heroics in 2015.
