Friday's NFL injury and roster news for Week 2

The Buffalo Bills will be without two key defensive pieces Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Coach Sean McDermott said Friday on WGR 550 in Buffalo that both linebackers Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder) and Matt Milano (hamstring) will be out for Week 2. The team would then announce the news on Friday morning.

The absence will leave a big hole in the middle of a stout Bills D. In Week 1, Milano compiled four tackles and an INT while Edmunds earned three tackles in the Bills' season-opening win over the Jets.

Here are the other news, injuries and transactions we're tracking Friday:

  • Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he's optimistic running back Miles Sanders (hamstring) and defensive end Derek Barnett (hamstring) will play in Sunday's home-opener against the Rams after both players practiced in full on Thursday. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports Sanders is expected to play after missing Week 1. Regarding the Eagles' offensive line, Pederson revealed Friday that Nate Herbig will start at right guard against the Rams. The undrafted rookie made his debut at that spot in light of Lane Johnson's absence due to injury.
  • Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown (knee) has been ruled out vs. the Jaguars, head coach Mike Vrabel announced.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is still going through the league's concussion protocol and is officially listed as doubtful for Sunday's game, says coach Bruce Arians. Godwin was a limited participant in practice on Friday. In a bit of good news for the Bucs, fellow wideout Mike Evans (hamstring) logged a full practice on Friday after being limited the past two days. Tight end Antony Auclair (calf) is the only player officially ruled out for Sunday.
  • Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay (hamstring) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears. He will now have missed the first two games of the 2020 season.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers right guard Stefan Wisniewski (chest) was placed on injured reserve. The team promoted tackle Derwin Gray from the practice squad in a corresponding move. It's the second Steelers O-lineman to be placed on IR this week, with tackle Zach Banner also getting injured in Monday night's win over the Giants. Steelers running back James Conner (ankle) has no game status designation on the final injury report. So he's good to go.
  • Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith is dealing with a neck injury, coach Mike McCarthy says. Smith hasn't practiced all week and a decision will be made on his availability on Saturday, but McCarthy added that Smith wants to play.
  • Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay (toe) has been ruled out for Sunday. The team also announced the signing of veteran linebacker Anthony Chickillo off the Saints' practice squad. A sixth-round pick by the Steelers in 2015, Chickillo holds career totals of 67 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and a trio of passes defensed, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.
  • Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn revealed Friday that wide receiver Julio Jones has been dealing with a hamstring injury the past couple weeks. "My concern level is low," says Quinn in regards to it impacting Jones' play. Jones has been limited in practice all week but was taken off the injury report on Friday, meaning he's a full-go for Sunday. Tackle Jake Matthews (knee) was listed as questionable.
  • New York Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder (hamstring) will be out on Sunday vs. the 49ers, says head coach Adam Gase. Crowder was the Jets' top pass catcher in Week 1 and the news was lamented by Gase, saying he's "probably our best player on offense the last two years."
  • Cincinnati Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah will miss the rest of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon in Thursday night's loss to the Browns, Rapoport reports. Coach Zac Taylor confirmed the news on Friday.
  • Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle (ankle/knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's home opener against the Vikings, head coach Frank Reich announced. Reich said Doyle is "making good progress" but it's too early to tell how long the TE will be out. Mo Alie-Cox and rookie Noah Togiai are prepared to take over in his absence.
  • Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler (rib) has been ruled out for Sunday's road game in Indianapolis. The team signed center Brett Jones and safety Josh Metellus to the 53-man roster.
  • The Arizona Cardinals have signed kicker Mike Nugent to their practice squad, the team announced. The 15-year veteran had a short stint with the Patriots in 2019.'
  • Miami Dolphins linebacker Elandon Roberts (concussion) has been officially ruled out for Sunday's home opener vs. the Bills, while safety Clayton Fejedelem (pectoral) is listed as doubtful. Wide receiver DeVante Parker (hamstring) is listed as questionable.
  • The Carolina Panthers have ruled out defensive tackle Kawann Short, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, and left guard Dennis Daley against the Buccaneers.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Tyler Davis (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's road game against the Titans.
  • Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters defensive end Alex Okafor (hamstring), cornerback Charvarius Ward (hand), and defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (elbow) will be ruled out for Sunday's game vs. Chargers.
  • New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate (hamstring) is questionable against the Bears.
  • The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed wideout Mohamed Sanu to a one-year deal. Richie James was placed on injured reserve to make room for the new Niners receiver.
  • Chicago Bears linebackers Khalil Mack (knee) and Robert Quinn (ankle) are questionable vs. Giants.
