Capers named Patriots' special assistant/secondary

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots hired former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers as special assistant for the secondary Thursday.

Capers, a former head coach at Carolina and Houston, spent two seasons at Miami. He was special assistant to the head coach in 2006 and defensive coordinator last season.

The Patriots also made Nick Caserio director of player personnel and Bill O'Brien as wide receivers coach.

Caserio was New England's wide receivers coach last season and had been the team's director of pro personnel for three years before that. O'Brien was an offensive coaching assistant last season. He spent 12 seasons as a college coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
