The Buffalo Bills will wear a helmet decal Sunday to honor two volunteer firefighters who were killed in New York this week by a deranged gunman, the team announced Saturday.
Firefighters from the West Webster Fire Department in Webster, N.Y., were responding to an early morning house fire Monday when they were ambushed by the lone gunman, who later took his own life after exchanging gunfire with an off-duty police officer.
Volunteer fire fighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were killed. Two other firefighters were shot and seriously wounded.
The 62-year-old convicted felon had left a note saying he hoped to burn down his upstate New York neighborhood and kill as many people as possible. The body of the gunman's sister was found in the charred remains of the home they shared.
The decal, which reads "WWFD," will join the "S.H.E.S." sticker the Bills are already wearing to honor the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that occurred in Newton, Conn., on Dec. 14.
