Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman returns after missing opening day of camp

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) -His back feeling limber, quarterback J.P. Losman practiced for the first time Friday, a day after the Buffalo Bills opened training camp.

"There was no pain out there today, pretty much zero," said Losman, who was activated off the physically-unable-to-perform list after straining his lower back while working out earlier this week. The second-year starter missed the team's first two practices on Thursday.

Losman took part in nearly all drills and pass plays, except for those that required him to severely twist his back.

Appearing rusty at first when he underthrew and overthrew a couple of passes, Losman found his rhythm when he hit Peerless Price for a long completion along the left sideline. Losman hit Price in stride, threading the ball between two defenders.

"I was excited this morning, had the little butterflies that everyone had yesterday," Losman said. "Today was my day to get them out. And I'm feeling more comfortable."

The second of Buffalo's two 2004 first-round draft picks, Losman went 5-4 down the stretch to help the team finish 7-9 last season. Offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild was happy to have Losman practicing.

"Little bit of a shock yesterday when you see the quarterback's not going," Fairchild said. "But that's good for the (backup quarterbacks) so yesterday was good in that regard."

Running back Marshawn Lynch also made his camp debut after the rookie first-round draft signed a five-year, $19 million contract late Thursday.

Price practiced despite dislocating his left pinky finger late during the Bills' second practice on Thursday.
