Demonstrates Excellence on The Field

Jason Cabinda is the epitome of the definition of a teammate. He has consistently put the needs of the team first. Coming from the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders, he joined the Detroit Lions as a Linebacker. Doing all he could to assist the team in winning, he took on roles on Special Teams to assist that unit. With the Lions' Fullback going down mid-season with an injury, Jason stepped up to the challenge and transitioned into that role. Fast forward, as the starting Fullback, Jason optimizes a team-first mentality and always performs to the best of his ability.

Demonstrates Dedication and Commitment to Community Efforts this Year

Jason has demonstrated commitment to the community through his various efforts at Davison Elementary School in Detroit; where he has hosted a back-to-school book drive and provided each student with a new book, weekly reading comprehension sessions, as well as volunteering his time by pouring into the students of Davison Elementary through mentorship. Jason also aided the first responders that searched the rubble of the tragic Surfside condominium, which occurred on June 24, 2021. Jason coordinated a food drive to feed those who searched and worked tirelessly to recover those who could be rescued or had perished in the tragic structural collapse.

Demonstrates Dedication and Commitment to Community Efforts in Years Past

Jason has hosted football camps for kids but recently could not engage in such events due to COVID-19. He aspires to re-start this annual tradition once it is safe to do so. Jason has also partnered with Falcons player Brandon Copeland, and together they have done holiday surprises for families in need. This surprise consisted of personal delivery of $1,000.00 to the families as well as a meet and greet style session to accompany his very generous gift. Throughout the years, Jason has offered families in need gift cards for Walmart shopping sprees, participated in events that support the Detroit Lions Academy (DLA), and participated in various efforts to feed the homeless citizens of both Oakland and Detroit. Jason's generosity has extended throughout the years, which has had a significant impact on the communities that he has served.

Demonstrates Consistency in Positive Character and Models a Lifestyle of Giving Back

In addition to many of his philanthropic efforts, Jason repeatedly volunteers to support team community initiatives and lead the Lions Inspire Change initiatives. Giving is an integral part of Jason's character, apparent through his philanthropic efforts and his drive to involve his teammates. Jason identifies a need, then immediately gets with his team and makes things happen. He is truly an inspiration to the younger players in the locker room and those who have the honor and privilege to be around him.

Jason has a passion for eradicating racism, homelessness, and childhood illiteracy.
