The Chicago Staleys of 1921 won the American Professional Football Association (APFA) championship with a 9-1-1 record. Outscoring opponents 128-53, the Staleys, who played at Cubs Park (later known as Wrigley Field), posted five shutouts on the season, including wins over the Packers, the Canton Bulldogs, and the Dayton Triangles. Player-coach George Halas caught three touchdowns at end, while All-Pro halfback Pete Stinchcomb led the team with four TDs. The following year, the Staleys were renamed the Bears and the APFA became known as the NFL.
