"We knew what the expectations were. We didn't think about being the 14th best team of all time, that wasn't our mind set." - Shannon Sharpe

The 1998 Denver Broncos won their second straight Super Bowl title behind the excellent play of league MVP Terrell Davis, who became the 4th running back with over 2,000 rush yards in a season. The Broncos won their first 13 regular season games and finished 14-2 – two games better than in 1997 – then dominated in the playoffs, beating the Dolphins, 38-3, the Jets, 23-10 and the Falcons, 34-19 in Super Bowl XXXIII. Coached by Mike Shanahan, the team ranked second in scoring per game (31.3). Thirty-eight-year-old Hall of Fame QB John Elway, who retired after the season, ended his career with a 9th Pro Bowl selection, throwing 22 passing TDs while Davis rushed for 2,008 yards and 21 rushing TDs. Other offensive weapons included Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, who had an All-Pro season (10 TD catches), Pro Bowl receiver Ed McCaffrey (1,053 receiving yards, 10 TD catches), and receiver Rod Smith (86 catches for 1,222 yards). Pro Bowlers on defense included linebacker Bill Romanowski and free safety Steve Atwater.
