Marcus Allen 74 Yard TD Run in Super Bowl XVIII

"I don't think anybody could've stopped me on that play." - Marcus Allen

In a blink, Marcus Allen, the Hall of Fame running back, turned an almost-certain loss of yards into a spectacular 74-yard run in Super Bowl XVIII. On January 22, 1984, with the Raiders beating the Redskins, 28-9, in the third quarter, Allen took a handoff from the Los Angeles 26. He headed left on a sweep, but was cut off by a defender and – with a second Redskin directly in front of him – had nowhere to go. Allen pivoted and reversed course, back toward the middle of the field, broke a tackle in the backfield, and sprinted downhill with some room. From there, Allen’s speed did the rest: he outran the entire Washington defense for a touchdown. The score, which was one of two during the game for Allen, put the game away as the Raiders would win their third Super Bowl, 38-9. Allen finished the game with 191 yards rushing.
