"He really introduced the idea of using the computer as a component to your football franchise." - Chuck Klosterman

For nearly three decades beginning in 1960, when the Cowboys were established, the franchise’s Vice President of Player Personnel was Gil Brandt. During his tenure, Brandt drafted nine future Hall of Famers – among them Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman – and crafted teams that would play in five Super Bowls, winning two. Under his leadership, the Cowboys had 20 straight winning seasons, 18 postseason appearances and became America’s Team. Brandt’s innovations included evaluating talent via computer and laying groundwork for the creation of the NFL Scouting Combine. Born in 1933 in Milwaukee, Brandt – who remains active as an NFL analyst – was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.
