Geno Smith, DeSean Jackson earn Players of the Week

Geno Smith's Monday night performance not only won over critics and headline writers, it also earned him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award for Week 5.

Smith completed 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns, but it was his poise down the stretch while leading the New York Jets to a 30-28 last-second victory over the Atlanta Falcons that most likely earned him the award.

Staying in the AFC, Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson had a turn-back-the-clock performance to win the Defensive Player of the Week award. The Heisman Trophy winner tied an NFL record by recording his 13th defensive touchdown Sunday night on a fumble recovery. He also had a game-ending interception.

Rounding out the AFC awards is Cleveland Browns punt returner Travis Benjamin, who takes home the special teams honors. Benjamin was a clear choice after setting a team record with 179 return-yards, including a 79-yard touchdown. Benjamin was so good he got a punter fired.

Over in the NFC, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock's pair of interceptions -- including an 18-yard touchdown return that continued Matt Schaub's nightmare -- earned him the defensive award.

DeSean Jackson's seven-catch, 132-yard performance wrangled the offensive award for the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver. Tony Romo still can't win.

Mason Crosby might have settled the churning stomachs of Green Bay Packers fans on the way to winning the NFC special teams award. Crosby scored 16 points in the 22-9 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, making all five of his field-goal attempts and one PAT.

NFL Media will announce the players of the week every Wednesday on NFL Network's "NFL AM." The list of Week 4 winners is right here.
