What we learned ...
Good showing for both Daunte Culpepper, Matthew Stafford: As the Lions debate who will start the season at quarterback, the two candidates played well against the Colts. Culpepper, who got the start, completed 7 of 12 for 67 yards and a touchdown. After struggling in his first two appearances, Stafford looked much better, hitting on 13 of 19 for 160 yards. Although he threw an interception, he appeared to be much more comfortable in the pocket. Both QBs might have made enough play to keep the competition going for another preseason game.
Peyton Manning is ready to go: After missing all of the preseason last year coming off surgery, Manning looks sharp heading toward the 2009 campaign. He connected on 12-of-15 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown en route to leading two scoring drives against the Lions.
Lions trying to change culture: The Lions are now 2-1 in the preseason. Granted, Detroit went 4-0 last preseason and then became the first 0-16 team in league history. However, hanging with the Colts with the starters in for both teams and then pulling out the win in the fourth quarter can only help build confidence for an organization in desperate need of it.
