Debate continues to swirl around Adrian Peterson following his indictment Friday on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child.
While Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has called for the Vikings to suspend their All-Pro running back, not everyone agrees that Peterson should be punished.
Detroit's Reggie Bush told WFAN-FM's "Boomer & Carton" show on Tuesday that he grew up facing similar methods of discipline and "would possibly consider" using a switch on his own daughter. Bush emphasized that Peterson "should definitely be allowed to play football."
"Adrian Peterson, I've known for a while, and he's a good guy," Bush said. "... I don't know all the details of the situation what happened, but I know me and like a lot of other guys who were born in the '80s, and even before then, were raised differently and disciplined differently. And I was one of those kids. I got what we called 'whoopings,' whooped with belts and stuff like that. For me, growing up, it was normal. And not to say, not to try to downplay the situation at all, I think that this is genuine, and obviously, I'm sure there's no ill intent against his own son."
Asked by Craig Carlton if he would "use that method of punishment to a 4-year-old or 5-year-old," Bush told the show: "I most definitely discipline my daughter."
"I have a 1-year-old daughter, and I discipline her," Bush said. "Obviously, every person is different, and I definitely will use my best judgment to discipline her depending on the situation on what happens. I definitely will try to -- obviously not leave bruises or anything like that on her -- but I definitely will discipline her harshly depending on, again, what the situation is."
Carlton circled back around to ask specifically if Bush would "consider using a switch" to punish a misbehaving child.
"I would possibly consider -- depending on what she did, like I said," Bush responded. "I remember, growing up as a kid, I was very mischievous, and I got into a lot of trouble -- I won't mention some of the things that I did. But you know, kids are kids. It's part of being a parent, and I'm learning this now.
"Like I said, I have a 1-year-old, and they're gonna get in trouble, they're gonna do things, and all you can do is use your best judgment, and that's what I'm going to do: I'm going to use my best judgment," Bush said. "And I'm not saying that I'm not going to spank her, but because, hopefully, she won't do anything bad enough where I have to. But also, at the same time, kids are gonna be kids. Whatever I do, whatever discipline I give her, it's always out of love, and it's always because I want the best for her, for my daughter, for my kids."

UPDATE: Early Wednesday, the Vikings announced that they have placed Peterson on the Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list, which requires Peterson to remain away from all team activities until he resolves his legal situation.
