Injury roundup: Julio Jones (turf toe) misses practice

Signs are looking promising for Julio Jones to help the Atlanta Falcons fend off the Tampa Buccaneers for the NFC South title.

The wideout missed Wednesday's session, but he could practice on Thursday, coach Dan Quinn told reporters. Jones is battling a case of turf toe after suffering the injury in the final moments of Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 7-5 Falcons play the struggling Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Here's a look at other injuries we are tracking Wednesday:

  1. Eagles running back Ryan Mathews (knee) practiced as a full participant. This is a good sign for him playing this week vs. the Redskins, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
  1. Vikings safety Harrison Smith will miss Sunday's game vs. the Jaguars with a high ankle sprain and could be out for the remainder of the regular season.
  1. Rams quarterback Jared Goff missed practice Wednesday due to an illness, head coach Jeff Fisher said. The rookie participated in meetings, and the missed practiced will not set Goff back for Sunday, Fisher added.
  1. Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is out for the remainder of the regular season after undergoing surgery Tuesday morning. He suffered a core muscle injury in a loss to the Steelers last week.
  1. Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins (foot) did not practice Wednesday. Wideout Robert Woods was limited with a knee injury.
  1. Texans wideout Braxton Miller was diagnosed with a shoulder sprain, Rapoport reported. His injury is described as day-to-day. He has a chance to play this week vs. the Colts. Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (elbow/wrist) is day-to-day, coach Bill O'Brien told reporters.
  1. Giants wideout Dwayne Harris (ankle) and safety Nat Berhe (concussion) did not practice Wednesday.
  1. Browns rookie safety Derrick Kindred has broken his ankle and will be placed on the non-football injury list. The team said he suffered the injury when he was training during the bye.
  1. Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (concussion) was limited at practice with his helmet in hand and pads on. He missed the last two games after suffering the injury in Week 11.
  1. Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian (foot) participated in walkthrough practice Wednesday, the team announced. Coach Gary Kubiak said the quarterback will practice Thursday, though the coach told reporters both Siemian and backup Paxton Lynchwill get ready to play Sunday.
  1. Packers linebacker Nick Perry had surgery to repair several broken fingers, a source told Rapoport. He will not play on Sunday. The team hopes he'll be able to play while wearing a cast.
